The Housing Secretary announces plan to kick-start the housing market in England with immediate effect

At Awdry Bailey and Douglas we understand that moving home can be a really positive, life changing experience. However in these unprecedented times you may have been thinking what happens now, can I still move home, exchange contracts and complete on the property I am purchasing?

We would like to assure you that you certainly can.  You may have heard that the Housing Secretary, Robert Jenrick has announced a plan to kick-start the housing market in England with immediate effect.

Amongst other measures designed to unlock the housing market, the government has amended the Coronavirus (COVID-19) regulations to make it clear that people who wish to move home in England can do so provided they follow the government’s new guidance, which applies to people moving between private residential homes (click here to see the guidance in full)

People wanting to move home in England can put their homes on the market, start to look for properties to move into, complete purchases and view properties in person.  Estate agents, conveyancers, removals firms and the other essential parts of the sales and letting process have re-started and are returning to work while following social distancing guidelines.

Even with the new plan the process of finding and moving into a new home will need to be slightly different, as everyone involved in the process will need to adapt practices and procedures to ensure that the risk of spread of Coronavirus is reduced as far as possible.

If you are unable to move due to being high risk, we can progress your transaction to exchange and hold until such time as restrictions are lifted.

At ABD we have a shared passion – to provide an excellent service to our clients, whatever the challenges and we will continue to do so.
